Choose a Festive Bird
Yes, turkey is traditional, but there’s all kinds of other options out there that will be a standout on your table. Here, a few ideas:
Roast goose has a rich flavour that’s beyond compare. It’s an extremely moist and tender meat that emerges from crispy skin and if you’ve got a family of dark meat lovers who usually fight over the turkey drumsticks, then roasting a goose will be a new family favourite.

Pinot Noir is one of the most popular red wines out there. Its flavour is the perfect combination of aromatic fruitiness and earthy tastes. When serving goose, we think Pinot Noir is your go-to red wine. Try Bread and Butter Pinot Noir with hints of strawberry, vanilla, and oak.
With a rich, dense flavor and crispy skin, duck is another unexpected bird to serve. Duck is a good, healthy meat, and fresh duck is available at your local Co-op in the Meat Department.
Our Pairing Pick: Duck with Chateauneuf du Pape
If you’re preparing a duck dish, especially something like Duck a L’Orange, then pair it with some Chateauneuf du Pape so it can bring out the rich, dense and full flavour of the duck.
Serve Seafood for a Lighter Option
Who says you can’t serve seafood as the main dish at a holiday party? Seafood can be served as either a main dish or a light appetizer. Shrimp is healthy and almost everyone loves it. From grilling, to frying, or creating a cold shrimp cocktail, you can cook shrimp in a variety of ways to please your guests.
Our Pairing Pick: Shrimp and Muscadet
We like Muscadet Sevre et Maine with shrimp. Made in a coastal French town, this is a clean, fresh tasting white wine that is absolutely meant for seafood.
This luxury seafood not only tastes great but is another lighter, healthier option. It has a chewier and a bit of a spongier texture than other seafood, but it’s decadent served in drawn lemon butter, or pulled apart and added to pasta dishes.
Our Pairing Pick: Serving Lobster with Chardonnay
When it comes to lobster, we love serving it with Kendall Jackson Grand Reserve. With its creamier and denser texture and buttery flavour and mouth feel means this wine holds its own against this rich seafood protein.
King crab is considered a luxe meal; it’s a sweet, rich, and flavourful seafood. The tender, sweet meat is perfect for a low key but highly decadent New Year’s Eve meal at home.

Pork Crown Roast
A Pork Crown Roast is a showstopper at the table. This ringed roast, with the bones still in, it resembles a crown when presented. It’s a beautiful way to serve pork.

Pork needs Syrah, in our opinion. They’re pairing soul mates. The full-bodied taste of Syrah makes it a great combination with light white meats like ham, pork tenderloin, and other pork dishes like our Crown Roast. Our recommendation is the Santa Ema Gran Reserva Syrah from Chile.
Tomahawk Steak is a huge steak served on the bone—on an entire rib. The way the meat and bone look together makes it stand out when served. It ends up looking a bit like a tomahawk axe (hence the name).
